1.2 System Management
The system manager to be provided by the user is responsible for managing one or more
shelves. The shelf manager of the ATCA-MF105 board provides an interface (Hardware
Platform Interface, HPI) to monitor and control the assigned shelves.
The shelf manager provides the information about the shelf and all its FRUs via the following
interfaces:
 To the system manager outside the shelf using IP via the out-of-band interface or hub
uplinks
 Inside the shelf via the backplane interfaces
The communication between the system manager and the shelf manager can be based on:
 Remote HPI
 Remote Management Control Protocol (RMCP)
