• Be very cautious that the apparatus does not tip over.
• Perform calibrations for all sensors, except the optical sensors, in an inverted
position with the bottom plug removed from the calibration cup (shown at right) to
reduce the volume of calibration reagents required for calibration.
• Use recommended volumes when performing calibrations to ensure that all sensors
are immersed in calibration standards. Many of the calibrations utilize readings
from other probes (e.g., temperature probe). See Section 4-4.5 below for
information on proper calibration volumes.
• Rinse the sonde with deionized or distilled water when changing calibration
standard. Shake excess rinse water off and dry the outside of the sonde to reduce
carry-over contamination of calibrator solutions and increase accuracy of the
calibration. Note that when rinsing the sensors, it is usually more convenient to
leave the clamp attached to the sonde and simply remove the assembly from the
clamp holder.
• For maximum accuracy, old calibration standards may be saved and a small amount
used to pre-rinse the calibration container and the sonde prior to insertion in a new
standard.
• Make certain that port plugs are installed in all ports where probes are not installed.
It is extremely important to keep these electrical connectors dry during calibration
and deployment.
• If an ERROR message appears during a calibration, begin the procedure again. Be
certain that the value you enter for the calibration standard is correct. Also see Section
8, Troubleshooting for more information on error messages.
4-5.4. Use of the Calibration Cup
Follow these instructions to use the calibration cup for calibration procedures.
With the sonde in an inverted position:
1. Inspect the installed gasket on the sonde for obvious defects and if necessary replace it by
contacting YSI Technical Support.
2. Screw the cup assembly into place on the threaded end of the sonde and securely tighten by
hand. Do not over-tighten as this could cause damage to the threaded portions of the bottom
cap and tube.
3. Remove the calibration cup bottom cap.
