11-2. Communication Problems
11-2.1. Cannot Communicate With ADV6600
In the event you are unable to establish communication with the ADV6600, the following list may
be helpful in resolving the problem:
• Make sure that all cables are securely connected and locking sleeves are installed. Check pins
at both ends. Ensure they are straight, dry and clean
• If you are using internal battery power, change to new batteries.
• If you are using external power, make certain that the YSI 6651 power supply is operating
properly. Note that the YSI 6038 power supply which is used with other YSI 6-series products
CANNOT be used with the ADV6600.
• Verify the computer serial port is functioning correctly. If possible, switch to another com port
or try using a different computer.
• Verify the baud rate, serial port, and other communication parameters are set up correctly.
11-2.2. Data Missing From Unattended Deployment
The ADV6600 internal recorder was designed for extremely high reliability; recorder failures are
very rare. Most data losses that occur are due to absence of power to the ADV6600 system. If you
have a deployment that appears to be missing data, look at the battery voltage recorded with each
sample. Check that these values are reasonable based on the type of power supply used, the sensors
enabled, and the length of the deployment. If you cannot determine what happened, please contact
YSI Technical Support (Section 11).
11-3. ADV Performance Problems
11-3.1. Beam Check Data Output
Beam Check can be used to detect almost any problem that can occur with the ADV sensor of the
ADV6600. This section describes the program output for some of the most common situations.
