Compass Calibration Procedure
1. Connect the ADV6600 to a
computer.
2. Launch ADVantage 6600 Software
for Windows.
3. Choose Connect to System.
Verify the COM setting and Baud
Rate. Click on Connect.
4. Select Compass Calibration in
the Tools and Utilities on-screen
list (or choose it from the System
menu). The window to the right
should appear.
5. Prior to beginning the calibration
in the laboratory, note the
following tips:
• Avoid performing the calibration near (i.e., within ca. 3 feet) large metallic objects such as
metal walls, cabinets, or water pipes
• Avoid jerky movements when performing the calibration
6. Click the Start button to begin the calibration procedure.
7. While standing, hold the ADV6600 at chest level with the Doppler sensor in the down
position. Cock the top of the sonde at an angle of about 30 degrees away from your body
as shown in the picture below left. Now rotate the instrument slowly through a complete
(360 degrees) turn around its longitudinal axis first in the clockwise and then in the
counterclockwise direction
