Brake shaft assembly
To remove/replace the brake shaft:
1. Remove the cutting deck by following the procedures
described in Chapter 8: Cutting Decks and Lift shaft.
2.
Lift and safely support the tractor.
3.
Remove the forward drive pedal shaft by following
the procedures described in Chapter 5: Drive Sys-
tem.
4.
Disconnect the brake pedal by removing the two nuts
and bolts that attach it to the brake pedal shaft using
a pair of 1/2” wrenches. See Figure 3.10.
5.
Disconnect the brake shaft return spring.
See Figure 3.11.
6.
Remove the E-ring and washer(s) from the right side
of the brake shaft. See Figure 3.12.
7.
Remove the hex bushings from both ends of the
brake pedal shaft.
