Long-Term Storage
Complete Parking steps first.
1.
Park the planter indoors if possible, per the steps
above. Great Plains recommends parking/storing in
the raised configuration, folded, on the parking
stands and with all lift cylinder locks installed.
2.
If no hopper or seed box is mounted, cap air box.
3.
If empty seed box or hopper is mounted, close the
seed gates and the lids.
4.
If partially-loaded seed box is mounted, close seed
gate, and remove seed box. If partially loaded hop-
per is present, unload seed via clean-out doors on
air box. Store planter only without seed.
5.
Open airbox clean-out door. Clean out residual seed.
6.
Close airbox clean-out doors. Using planter fan, blow
seed to meters, cleaning out the lines.
7.
Clean out meters. Remove meters.
8.
Plug open seed lines to prevent pest entry.
9.
Remove seed wheels from Singulator Plus
®
meters.
Clean wheels of residue build-up (see Caution at
right). Use mild soap, non-abrasive scrubbers, and
hot or warm water. If using sealed storage, dry
wheels thoroughly prior to storage.
10. Close all clean-out doors and ports. Shut off all
Y-tubes.
11. Apply grease to exposed cylinder rods to prevent
rust.
12. Option: Flush fertilizer lines (if present). Flush sys-
tem with RV anti-freeze if there is any chance of
freezing prior to next implement use.
13. Option: Empty and clean fertilizer strainers.
14. Option: Drain any air tanks that have drain valves.
15. Lubricate all points listed in Maintenance to prevent
rust.
16. Clean planter of mud, dirt, excess oil and grease.
17. Inspect YP3010HDP/20P/25 for worn or damaged
parts. Make repairs and service during off season.
18. Use spray paint to cover scratches, chips, and worn
areas on the planter to protect the metal.
19. Cover YP3010HDP/20P/25 with a tarp if stored out-
side.
Storage: Fertilizer Option
The pump, strainer and manifold system require special
attention prior to storage. See “Fertilizer System Main-
tenance” on page 106.

Possible Chemical Hazard:
Seed wheels will have talc and graphite residue, and may have
residues of hazardous seed treatments. Do not wash wheels
where food is prepared, or where cookware or dinnerware is
washed. Wear gloves when washing wheels. Avoid spray.
Seed Rate Risk:
The Singulator Plus
®
seed wheel material is mildly hygro-
scopic (water absorbing). Dimensional changes could affect
singulation and seed rate. Do not soak for extended periods.
Allow ample time to dry, or clean instead with compressed air.
Cleaning in a dishwasher is not recommended.
Removing the seed boxes/hoppers increases the life of
the air box seals, which are otherwise apt to be perma-
nently compressed if stored under load off-season.
Do not store optional bulk hopper outside on the
ground. Raise it on blocks, securing it in place to pre-
vent from falling over or blowing around by wind. Store
inside if possible.
