OptiProbe Transmission Analyzer

The XDS™ OptiProbe Transmission Analyzer is designed for sampling of many types of customer
samples. The transmission configuration is most often used with liquid samples, using a flow-through
cell or a bypass cell. It may also be used with textiles and films, if a suitable sample holder has been
designed.

Always be careful of the fiber optic cables, as they can be damaged by rough handling. Never bend
in less than a 6-inch (150mm) radius.

The OptiProbe Transmission Analyzer is provided
with two fiber optic cables of 1.5-meter (59”)
length.

These fiber bundles must be used with probes or
with a suitable sampling device, such as the Vial
Heater Module. Both are explained in this section.

The OptiProbe Transmission Analyzer can be
ordered with probe barrels which contain sapphire
windows. Shown are 1” (25.4mm) probe barrels.

These probe barrels have the bezel ends, and can
be inserted into a flow cell or side-stream cell.

Transmission probes also can be used with the Vial
Heater Module. A temperature control for the vial
sampling areas provides sampling consistency by
minimizing effects due to sample temperature.

The Vial Heater Module is designed for 300 micro-
liter “Clear Round Bottom Vials, 8mm Crimp”.

The fiber optic bundles, while well-protected, should always be handled with care. The individual
fibers are quite thin, and can be broken by rough handling. Breakage of these strands will reduce the
light energy, and will eventually cause the instrument to fail diagnostic tests.

Always observe these precautions:

Never bend the bundle tighter than a 12” (305mm) diameter. As a rule, do not bend the fiber

any tighter than the gentle bend that it assumes in a normal repose.

Always store the bundle on the holder when not in use.

Never attempt to “stretch” the fiber beyond its reach. Fiber bundle length is 1.5-meter.
