5 Fitting
Fitting the mechanical components
Warning
Pre-stressed springs may expand suddenly when the unit is dismantled.
S Always leave the clamping unit mounted.
Please note
Lateral loadings on the clamping rod will damage the internal clamping
element.
S
Make sure that the piston rod is stressed only in the direction of movement.
Lateral forces can be avoided if a flexocoupling is used.
Please note
Movement of the clamping rod against the clampng forces creates high wear on
the internal clamping element and clamping rod.
S
Make sure that the static holding force is not exceeded at any time. Other-
wise, the piston rod may move unexpectedly.
S Make sure that dynamic forces are always less than the permitted holding
force (see chapter “Technical specifications”).
S Make sure that the clamping unit is placed as follows:
– so that you always have access to the operating parts, even at a later stage
– the unit must be fastened free of stress and bending.
When the unit is fitted in a vertical position:
S Check whether additional external safety measures are necessary (e.g. toothed
latches or moveable bolts).
