Using a Repeater

Using a Repeater

There are three main features and configuration options to keep in mind when using a repeater. Before ordering a repeater
discuss these needs with your AutoSteer dealer and verify they will work in your situation. The three options are:

Daisy Chaining

Multiple-Repeater Setup

Daisy Chaining

In some situations, one Repeater may not provide adequate coverage for the area around a Base Station. In this case it is
sometimes possible to use multiple Repeaters to help fill in the gaps. In order to set up more than one Repeater to work with a
Base Station, one repeater must be set to Repeater 1 and the other set to Repeater 2 from the factory or by your AutoFarm
dealer.

Daisy chaining is when a Base Station sends a signal to Repeater 1 and then Repeater 1 sends the signal on to Repeater 2.
Repeater 2 then sends the RTK data to the vehicle. In this case Repeater 2 cannot directly get a signal from the Base Station.
Using repeaters in this manner enables the user to get a RTK signal around a large obstacle.

A5 Repeaters

The A5 Repeater will allow Daisy Chaining. It is limited to two repeaters in the chain. Repeater 1 needs to be configured to
Repeater 1 and placed closest to the Base Station signal. Repeater 2 needs to be configured as Repeater 2 and placed near
Repeater 1. It is a good practice to physically label the Repeaters 1 and 2 to ensure they are kept separate.

AFLink Repeaters

The AFLink Repeater will not allow Daisy Chaining. The radio modems do not have the capacity to transmit the RTK data
through the second Repeater.

Note: Repeater 2 cannot be used to extend the sub-inch signal range of the Base Station outside the 6 mile (9.7 km)
coverage area of the Base Station itself. It should only be used to get the signal around an obstacle and transmitted to an
area where the vehicle is still within 6 miles (9.7 km) of the Base Station's GPS Antenna.

Note: Every time the data is transmitted through a repeater, the effective amount of data the repeater can transmit is cut
in half. Because of the way each radio modem system (A5 and AFLink) sends data, Daisy Chaining my not always be
possible. Check the limitations for the system being used before attempting to configure the Repeater for Daisy Chaining.
