Volumes that cannot be shared:
The Version 2 and TrueCopy for Mainframe shared configuration is different from the IBM
FlashCopy and PPRC shared configuration. For Version 2 and TrueCopy for Mainframe, you
cannot create the following pairs (see
“Version 2 and TrueCopy for Mainframe: Non-sharable
Combinations” (page 56) ):
◦ A TrueCopy for Mainframe pair that includes a volume functioning as both a Version 2
T-VOL and a TrueCopy for Mainframe R-VOL.

You must do the following when you share a Version 2 S-VOL and a volume of a TrueCopy
for Mainframe pair, or when you use the Remote FlashCopy function:
◦ Specify only one Version 2 T-VOL if the Version 2 S-VOL is shared with a TrueCopy for
Mainframe R-VOL.
◦ Specify a volume with the same emulation type and same capacity as the Version 2 S-VOL
to the TrueCopy for Mainframe S-VOL if the Version 2 S-VOL is shared with the TrueCopy
for Mainframe R-VOL.
◦ Set the local mode (Mode 20 and Mode 190) to ON at the RCU.

◦ Use the volume whose emulation type is shown in “Emulation Types Supported by Version
2” (page 64) .
When you share a Version 2 S-VOL and a volume of a TrueCopy for Mainframe pair, the status
of the TrueCopy Asynchronous for Mainframe pair must be either duplex, pending duplex, or
suspend. However, if the shared TrueCopy for Mainframe volume is an R-VOL, there may be cases
in which you cannot create the Version 2 relationship. (see
“Volume Share of a Version 2 S-VOL
and TrueCopy for Mainframe” (page 57) for detailed information.)
