To copy one or more dataset using the FCESTABL command:
1. Check the VTOC list to confirm the VTOC (including INDEX VTOC) and the address (cylinder
number and header number) of the datasets that you want to copy.
2. Vary the T-VOL offline.
3. Execute the FCESTABL command.
4. Specify the following items by the EXTENTS parameter.
CAUTION: If you access a dataset that is not specified by the EXTENTS parameter, the
operation cannot be guaranteed.

VTOC address (Cylinder 0, header 0)
•
VTOC
If the desired datasets uses the following items, you must also specify those items by the
EXTENTS parameter.
•
Datasets to be copied
To copy multiple datasets, you must specify the extents of all of the desired datasets.
•
INDEX VTOC
•
VSAM volume dataset of the VSAM file (SYS1.VVDS.Vxxxxxx,xxxxxx is VOLSER)
5. Change the VOLSER of the T-VOL.
You must change the VOLSER of the T-VOL before varying the T-VOL online because the
VOLSERs of the S-VOL and T-VOL become identical as a result of copying the VTOC.
6. Vary the T-VOL online.

Establishing a Version 1 Relationship Using DFSMSdss Command
Version 1 can be used by the COPY FULL command (description) via the DFSMSdss commands.
“Parameters for the DFSMSdss Command (Version 1)” (page 26) lists the parameters you can use
with the DFSMSdss command.

The COPYVOLID option is used to copy the volume serial number
(VOLSER).
If the COPYVOLID option is specified, the volume serial number is copied
to the T-VOL, and the T-VOL becomes offline automatically.
This COPYVOLID option was necessary for SMS-managed volumes until
the DUMPCONDITIONING parameter was added to DFSMSdss with
APAR OW 45674. If the DUMPCONDITIONING parameter is specified,
there is no need to copy the volume serial number for SMS-managed
volumes.
N/A COPYVOLID
DUMPCONDITIONING is used when you want to specify that the purpose
of the copy operation is to create a backup copy and not for using the
