1.

If you need to release the pair(s) from the RCU in order to access the R-VOL(s) (for example,
to perform ICKDSF), connect to the MCU(s) and suspend the pair(s) first.

2.

Connect to the MCU or RCU* of the pair(s) to be released, open the TrueCopy for Mainframe
Pair Operation window.

If you plan to use the C/T Delete Range option, you must connect to the RCU.

3.

In the tree, select the CU or the upper CU grouping which contains the pair(s) to be released.
Use the Display Filter as needed to display the desired pairs (for example, select Async only).

4.

In the list, select the pair(s) that you want to release. Select either TrueCopy for Mainframe
Sync or Async pairs (not both). If you plan to use the TrueCopy for Mainframe Synchronous
All Deleting Mode option, select only one TrueCopy for Mainframe Sync pair. If you plan to
use the C/T or Group delete range option, select only one TrueCopy for Mainframe Async
pair in the group.

5.

Right-click, and click Delete Pair to open the Delete Pair dialog box (see

“Delete Pair Dialog

Box (Asynchronous)” (page 162)

).

6.

On the Delete Pair dialog box, select the desired release options, and click Set to close the
dialog box. The preview list displays the requested release pair operation(s).

7.

Verify the requested operation(s) in the preview list. Make sure that the release options for
each pair are correct. The selected volume is listed first (CU, Device, S/N, SSID), and the
other volume in the pair is listed second (CU, Device).

To change one or more operations, select the operation(s) from the preview list, right-click,
and click Modify. To remove one or more operations, select the operation(s) from the preview
list, right-click, and click Delete. To cancel all operations, select all the operations in the preview
list, right-click, and click the Delete command or click Cancel.

8.

To start the operation(s), click Apply.

If one or more operation(s) did not start normally, the preview list displays only the operation(s)
that did not start normally. An error code is displayed on the Error Code column in the preview
list. To display an error message, select one LU, right-click, and click Error Detail. After you
see the error message, click OK to close the error message.

9.

On the Pair Operation window, verify that the release pair operation(s) is/are completed
successfully (Simplex or Deleting then Simplex status, not Suspend). To monitor the progress
of the operation(s), click Refresh to update the information in the list, or use the Detailed
Information dialog box to monitor the detailed status of each pair. You can also monitor the
host console messages (IEA494I vs. IEA491E) to verify the operation(s).

To restart a pair which was released from the RCU, first release the pair from the MCU, and then
restart the pair using the appropriate initial copy option (Entire Volume or None).

ICKDSF Considerations for TrueCopy for Mainframe Volumes

The HP disk array supports the use of the ICKDSF utility program. ICKDSF performs functions for
the installation, use, and maintenance of DASD as well as service functions, error detection, and
media maintenance. For further information on ICKDSF, see the IBM document ICKDSF R16 Refresh
User's Guide (GC35-0033)
or other IBM documents on ICKDSF R16 or later. See the HP XP Disk
Array Mainframe Host Attachment and Operations Guide
for further information on using ICKDSF
with the XP disk array.

ICKDSF on a TrueCopy for Mainframe M-VOL

ICKDSF activities involve write I/O operations with device support authorization instead of normal
authorization. Since the MCU does not duplicate write I/O operations with device support
authorization at the R-VOL of a TrueCopy for Mainframe pair, you must suspend a TrueCopy for
Mainframe pair before running ICKDSF on a TrueCopy for Mainframe M-VOL. To perform ICKDSF
