Storage Systems
TrueCopy for Mainframe operations involve the main (primary) storage systems and the remote
(secondary) storage systems. This document covers TrueCopy for Mainframe operations in which
the main storage system is an XP24000/XP20000 Disk Array and the remote storage system is
an XP24000/XP20000 Disk Array (or XP12000/XP10000 Disk Array) storage system. The main
storage systems contain the TrueCopy for Mainframe main volumes (M-VOLs), which contain the
original data and are online to the host(s). The remote storage systems contain the TrueCopy for
Mainframe secondary volumes (R-VOLs), which are the synchronous or asynchronous copies of
the M-VOLs. TrueCopy for Mainframe supports all CUs, volumes, and physical hard drive options
for the XP disk array. TrueCopy for Mainframe supports RAID1, RAID 5 and RAID 6 configurations.
All XP disk arrays with TrueCopy for Mainframe installed are compatible with the IBM PPRC host
software function.
The additional Shared Memory option is required for TrueCopy operations.

To provide greater flexibility and to enable HP disk arrays to be tailored to unique customer
operating requirements, additional operational parameters, or optional modes, are available for
the XP disk array. At installation, the disk array modes are set to their default values, therefore,
ensure that you discuss these settings with your HP team. The XP disk array modes can only be
changed by your HP representative.
“XP Disk Array Modes for TrueCopy for Mainframe” (page 12)
shows the modes related to TrueCopy for Mainframe and PPRC operations.
This mode information was current at the time of publication of this document, but it may change.
Contact your HP representative for the latest HP disk array system option mode information.
The storage system performing TrueCopy for Mainframe Asynchronous operations (main and
remote) use sidefiles in cache for storing the TrueCopy for Mainframe Asynchronous recordsets.
