This glossary defines terms used in this guide or related to this product and is not a comprehensive
glossary of computer terms.

APEX

P9000 Application Performance Extender.

command device

A command device is a XP LUN/LDEV mapping in HP-UX, Linux, or Windows
that can be used to send management commands to the XP array.

controller

Is a software that allocates resources to application groups (HP-UX), and hosts
(Windows, Linux). It helps applications achieve their Service Level Objectives
(SLO). The controller communicates with the XP disk array through the command
device.

communication
agent

Is a resident agent software running on all hosts in your environment.

host

A computer that runs user applications and uses (or potentially uses) one or more
virtual disks that are created and presented by the array controller.

The Hewlett-Packard Authorization Center license key website (

), where you generate a license for a specified internal

raw disk capacity of your XP disk array or the usable capacity of your P9000
disk array.

LDEV

Logical Device.
An LDEV is created when a RAID group is divided into smaller partitions or
volumes according to the selected host emulation mode (that is, OPEN-3, OPEN-8,
OPEN-9). The number of resulting LDEVs depends on the selected emulation
mode. The term LDEV is often used synonymously with the term Volume.

LUN

Logical Unit Number.

LVM

Logical Volume Manager.

Centralized system that communicates and coordinates between the graphical
user interface, the communication agent, and the controller.

MP blades

The MP blades are the microprocessor blades in the P9000 disk arrays. Each
MP blade has four MPs residing on it.
The MPs/DKPs that reside on the CHAs and the DKAs in the XP disk arrays form
part of the MP blades in the P9000 disk arrays.

N_Port ID
Virtualization
(NPIV)

NPIV enables a single FC HBA port to register several unique WWNs with the
fabric, each of which can be assigned to an individual virtual machine.

PRM

Process Resource Manager.
