Introduction 10
The LumaSense BoilerSpection system uses a specific wavelength of infrared for imaging that
enables the system to see through flames and hot combustion gas inside a boiler or furnace. This
allows for clear views of boiler walls, tubes and the buildup of slag through the flames during
normal and continuous operation. These imagers are made in the USA using state-of-the-art
microbolometer focal plane arrays with integrated narrowband (aka “notch”) spectral filters near
3.9 µm wavelength to view the inside of the furnace where combustion flames are most
transparent.
2.2 System Overview
The system is designed with proven protective hardware to provide low-maintenance and
continuous operation in harsh boiler and furnace environments.
The base system includes:
Radiometric infrared camera (320 x 240)
Borescope lens with integral cooling and purge
Protective camera enclosure with integrated cooling
Automated retraction device with integrated shutter to block furnace radiation
Field-mounted switch enclosure (referred to as "data panel" in technical drawings) for
Ethernet connection to the control room (fiber-optic connection standard)
Control room controller with real-time analysis software
In addition to the base system, customers can select from options, such as:
Manual or remote operated ball valve connections to the furnace
Computer racks and networking hardware
I/Os and DCS integration
Advanced data archiving
On-site installation and commissioning support
