Troubleshooting Tips
Table 12-3 lists some situations that you may encounter, causes, and actions to
take.

Situation
Cause
Possible Solution
The HeartStart XLT
does not turn on.
There is no power.
OR
A corrupt Data Card may prevent the unit
from powering on.
OR
Hardware failure.
z
Insert a fully charged battery.
z
Attach AC Power cord.
z
Remove the Data Card
z
Insert a new Data Card, if available
z
Turn on the device
z
Remove this unit from clinical use and
call for service.
The display is blank
except for
“SYSTEM FAILURE
CYCLE POWER”.
An internal error occurred.
If this occurs during actual use:
z
Substitute another defib, if possible.
Remove this unit from clinical use and
call for service.
z
If no other defib is available, turn
power off, then on. If unit turns on
normally, use for this one incident.
After this incident, remove from clini-
cal use and call for service.
z
If unit does not turn on normally, it
cannot be used.
If this occurs during routine testing:
z
Remove this unit from clinical use and
call for service.
The HeartStart XLT
appears to be on but the
display is blank.
z
The contrast needs adjusting.
z
The display has overheated.
z
Adjust the contrast.
z
Avoid exposing the display to direct
sunlight on a hot day.
