Checking the noise shaper (noise

shaped dithering)

You can use the noise shaper when creating an audio CD

from master files of 24-bit songs. (See "Creating an audio

CD" on page 82.)
You can check the effect of using the noise shaper when

creating an audio CD in advance.

NOTE

The noise shaper only affects the audio CD created. It has no

effect on the original master files themselves.

ª What is a noise shaper?

Since standard audio CDs use 16-bit quantization, this

unit automatically converts master files created from 24-

bit songs to 16-bit when writing a CD. When the bit rate

is converted, a very low level of quantization distortion

usually occurs at points where sound becomes inaudible,

but you can reduce this distortion by turning the noise

shaper on.
The noise shaper in this unit reduces quantization

distortion by using a dithering technique that adds

random noise below the quantization steps.

Mastering

screen is open,

NSD
