Using NBS
Host Transport Protocol
If the onsite VSAT is down and a modem must be put into service, ensure that the Host
Transport Protocol parameter is changed before putting the modem in service.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This parameter is used to specify the method of communication to the host system.
1 - Modem or 2 - VSAT are the two options given; they are not compatible. Ensure that you
determine which method will be used before running the system. The default is set to Modem
when the system is initialized.
Set Prompts to the Second (2nd) Display Line on Readers
Due to the position and type of Graphic reader, some patrons have difficulty viewing prompts
on the top line. This parameter, when Enabled (default is Disable), will shift all but the local
and debit prompts to the second line of the dispenser reader device; debit and local prompts
must be set from the system reader program. If setting the prompts to the second (2nd) line is
desired, the prompts in the system reader program must also be set to the second line by
prefixing “~2” to the prompt messages.
Note: This option is not implemented on many two-line dispensers, including an ICR.
Allow PCI Debit at the Dispenser
PCI requires debit card transactions to be sent to the host in a deleted track format. However,
due to the banking host requirements, at this time, NBS requires full track data to be sent. The
default (Disabled) is set to send full track data. PCI currently exempts the requirement to allow
full track data to be sent to the host, until the banking systems can comply with PCI
regulations. The host systems are projecting PCI compliance for using truncated track data in
2009. After NBS can accept truncated debit card information, this parameter must be changed
to “Enable”. Contact NBS about sending truncated debit card data before changing this
parameter. Else, unpaid card sales may occur.
