13 Troubleshooting VCEM

IMPORTANT:

VCEM 7.1 supports the Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) browser. Virtual Connect

Manager versions earlier than VC FW 3.30 only support IE8 in IE7 compatibility mode. Use the
IE8 Developer Tools settings (Tools

→Developer Tools or press F12 on your keyboard) to select IE8

mode when using versions of the VCM GUI prior to 3.30. Using IE8 mode to access the VCM GUI
with firmware versions prior to 3.30 can cause incorrect operations. Similarly, using IE7
compatibility mode when accessing the 7.1 VCEM GUI can cause incorrect operations. For a list

When you are upgrading to a new and different CMS, or are moving to a 64-bit CMS, you might
need to migrate your data by using the Systems Insight Manager data migration tool. If you are
upgrading to a new version of VCEM on the same CMS, data migration with the Systems Insight
Manager data migration tool is not necessary. For more information, see the Data Migration of

Performing the VC Domain maintenance operations with forward-compatible
VC firmware

If you have a VC Domain running in a VC Domain Group with VC firmware 3.15, VC Domains
that do not support the 3.15 firmware (like a future VC firmware) cannot be added into this VC
Domain Group.

If you begin a VC Domain maintenance operation (from VCEM) on one of the VC Domains within
the VC Domain Group to start a firmware upgrade operation, while the VC Domain is under
maintenance, the whole VC Domain Group and all the VC Domains in it are blocked for profile
operations.

If you upgrade the VC Domain to a new VC firmware that does not support backward compatibility
with VC 3.15, and then use VCEM to complete VC Domain maintenance, the complete maintenance
operation fails because the new VC Domain firmware is not compatible with the current VC Domain
Group 3.15 firmware. To resolve this, remove the updated VC Domain from the 3.15 VC Domain
Group and create a new VC Domain Group using the VC Domain that was removed from the
3.15 VC Domain Group.

General

If you are logged into HP SIM using an account with insufficient access privileges and attempt to
execute the “VCEM Profile Failover by Hostname”, or “VCEM Profile Failover by IP address” custom
tools, the following message appears:

SSH public key authentication failed for user

To resolve this issue, log in to HP SIM with an account created with VCEM Domain Group Limited
Operator or higher permissions for the resource being managed and execute the VCEM Profile
Failover by Hostname or VCEM Profile Failover by IP address custom tools again.

Warning dialogs are not translated into Japanese

When other products, such as Matrix OE are being installed, VCEM might display a warning to
prevent potentially disruptive operations from being performed. The warnings are always displayed
in English.
