Allocating volumes by searching:
In contrast to the prior use case you can search for volumes meeting certain conditions (host,
volume, performance levels, etc.) before allocating them to hosts
The presence of, and order in which, a field may appear in the Allocating Volumes dialog box is
highly dependent on your host configuration and your use case.
Prerequisites for allocating volumes to specified hosts
Before allocating volumes to a host, you must verify that the host and storage systems are registered
in P9000 Command View AE Suite.
If you want to select volumes from a tier, an HP StorageWorks P9000 Tiered Storage Manager
software license must be enabled.
In addition, determine:

The target host name
•
The number and size of the volumes you are allocating
•
An appropriate storage system
Allocating volumes to a specified host
Volumes can be allocated to a specified host. For a cluster configuration, you can allocate volumes
in a batch by selecting one or more hosts.

Prerequisites for allocating volumes to specified hosts
To allocate volumes to a host:
1.
From the Resources menu, select Hosts.
2.
Expand the tree and select the desired operating system.
3.
From the list of hosts, select one or more target hosts, click Allocate Volumes, then click Show
Plan and perform the following:
• Verify the information that is displayed.
• Enter a name in Task Name.
• Specify when the task should execute.
4.
Click Submit to register the plan as a task.
NOTE:
When allocation completes, the host administrator must mount the volume and create a file
system to make the volume writable.
It is also possible to perform the action above by clicking Actions and then Allocate Volumes.
