MoUntinG of brake Disc
disMantling oF old BraKe disc(s)
> Dismantle brake disc
> Carefully clean the wheel flange on which the brake disc is to be mounted, to free it from
contamination and foreign bodies (e.g. residual paint, old screw locking material) and check for
damage. A contaminated or damaged mounting surface is not flat and will cause vibrations.
Mounting oF the neW BraKe disc
Follow carefully this procedure when mounting the brake disc:
> Spread a thin layer of “medium strength” screw locking fluid on the fixing screws before
mounting.
> Mount brake disc(s) according to the specifications of the respective motorcycle manufacturer
with the help of the original or the fixing elements accompanying certain models. In doing so
observe the correct tightening torque specification from the vehicle manufacturer!
caUtion: An incorrect tightening torque can lead to loosening of the screw or to the destruction
of the screw/thread.
> Mount brake pads as well as the wheel and caliper(s) again according to the specifications of
the manufacturer.
> Check the exact position of the caliper(s) and the freedom-of-movement of wheel and discs
and correct the mounting appropriately as necessary. Guide values: The caliper must be
seated in the middle of the brake disc and should have a radial spacing from the disc of 1-2 mm.
The pad must not project over the outer edge of the disc.
> Run in the brake disc as described on page
20.
caUtion: Never use carbon and sinter pads on one brake disc!
Maintenance
general:
If the motorcycle is put out of commission for a long time, we recommend generally that the brake
pads are removed so that contact corrosion can be avoided. Brake discs can be protected from rust
with a preservation agent, however it is then essential to fully remove this agent with a brake clea-
ner before putting the motorcycle back into commission again. Surface corrosion can also be remo-
ved by hand using mechanical means.
caUtion: The brake pad surfaces must not come into contact with either oil, grease, pastes, brake
fluids or other chemicals. If this does happen the pads must be exchanged.
