transporting the Motorcycle
When transporting the motorcycle you must pay attention to certain aspects of the
disc brake system:
Do not pull in the brake lever if the front wheel has been removed. If this does happen then ple-
ase proceed according to the description "Maintenance of the system". After transportation
check whether the brakes function. If the bike is inclined or is in a horizontal position, air can
get out of the compensating reservoir into the master cylinder. If the pressure point has
changed, bleed the system at the bleeding valve. (Maintenance from page
30)
Master cylinder, brake calipers and brake discs are safety-relevant components and require cor-
responding certificates for permission to be used in road traffic. You should therefore check
whether an ABE or a parts certificate is attached to your components.
If a parts certificate is present then the vehicle must be demonstrated to a recognised specia-
list immediately after installation, who will check the proper installation as well as the proper
function and will enter any changes into the vehicle documents. If this is not done then the ope-
rating permit for your motorcycle becomes invalid.
if an abe is provided you should proceed as follows:
Master cylinder: Acceptance by TÜV/Dekra or similar – no entry necessary Brake caliper/com-
plete system: Acceptance by TÜV/Dekra or similar – no entry necessary
Brake disc: In the case of the brake discs no demonstration is necessary
The ABE is part of the vehicle papers and must be carried on every trip.
WarninG: Brake systems and their components are safety-relevant vehicle parts. Therefore
any work on them which may be necessary may only be carried out by
appropriately qualified personnel. Refer to your own countries requirements for testing and cer-
tification as necessary.
