8 Setup
8.1 Setup check list
For the setup of VEGACOM 557 on PROFI-
BUS DP proceed as follows:
I. Check hardware requirements
• PROFIBUS DP compatible master compo
nent
• VEGACOM 557 version „Profibus DP “
II. Check software requirements
• VEGA Utility diskette from version 3.00 with
GSD file and programming examples for
Siemens S5, S7
II. Carry out adjustments on VEGACOM
557 (DIL switch on additional board)
• Set Profibus-Slave address
• Activate/deactivate bus terminator
III. Configurate Profibus DP-Master and
check communication
• The green LED named “BA” lights on
VEGACOM 557 with correct communica-
tion.
8.2 Setup SIEMENS S7 automation
system
For connection of decentralised peripherals
to automation instruments of S7 series,
SIEMENS uses Pr ofibus DP. Many of the S7
CPUs offer already a Profibus DP interface.
For connection of VEGACOM 557 to a S7
automation system, a Profibus DP interface
must be available and the automation system
must work as Pr ofibus-Master. In this section,
all measures that must be taken for the setup
of your VEGACOM 557 on a S7 automation
system are described in detail.
Note:
If your Profibus-Master is manufactured by
another company, please check the manu-
facturer documentation for the r equired infor-
mation.
Configuration SIEMENS S7 automation
system
The configuration and parameter setting of
the Profibus is done with the software
SIMATIC-Manager fr om SIEMENS. All con-
figurations for the connected Profibus net-
work are made via the window HW-Config.
