Optical edge detection probes
Probe magnifications can be added and deleted from the Probe menu as optical lenses are installed and
removed.
Edge recognition should be calibrated at the light levels of all optical magnifications. Position offsets
between the crosshair and optical edge probes can be eliminated for all optical magnifications using cross-
calibration functions. Position offsets resulting from minor mechanical lens misalignments can be elimi-
nated using magnification offset compensation functions. CNC probing parameters can be specified to
control probing velocity and data point search distance.
Adding and deleting probe magnifications
Probe magnifications are added
and deleted using the Tools/
Options/Optical Probes setup
screen. Refer to Chapter 10: Su-
pervisor Setup for details.
Calibrating optical edge recognition
Optical edge recognition depends on the contrast between dark and light areas of the part image, and much
less commonly, on the edge characteristics of the part being measured.
Typical optical edge calibrations only involve simple measurements of dark and light areas of the screen at
each optical magnification. However, special part edge characteristics might occasionally necessitate the
measurement of the dark/light contrast boundaries at the part edge. The Teach function performs simple
measurements of dark and light areas of the screen while the Distance Cal function performs contrast
measurements at the part edge.
