Specifying auto circle probing characteristics
The Auto Circle Measure function performs automatic circle prob-
ing in systems that include optical edge detection and CNC stages.
When the optical edge detector is located inside a circle and Auto
Circle is clicked in the Measure menu, the system drives the CNC
stage to automatically probe a collection of 4 or 8 points on the cir-
cumference of the circle. The size and location of the circle can quickly be computed from 4 points, but
can be computed with higher accuracy when 8 points are probed.
Entering a Maximum Circle Diameter prevents the CNC system from driving the stage to the limit of travel
when the Auto Circle measure function is selected and the optical edge detector is inadvertently located
outside the circle. The Maximum Circle Diameter value must be a non-zero value.
Checking optical edge detector light levels
Click the Light Levels button to display a bar graph display of the optical edge
detector reference and screen light levels. The bar graph shows that a reference
light is being generated and that the detector is receiving light from the screen.
The bar graph displays relative light levels. The light requirements of each system can be
different, and a wide variety of light levels are acceptable.
Setting up the crosshair probe
Use the Crosshair screen to add and delete probe magnifications. Click the Tools/Options/
Crosshair menu item to display the Crosshair probe screen.
Adding and deleting
probes
Existing optical probes are shown in the Mag-
nifications list.
Click the New button to add a new probe
magnification. The New Mag dialog box
will be displayed. Enter the name of the new
probe magnification and click OK. Click the
Delete button to delete the probe currently
highlighted in the Magnifications list.
