Term Definition
Outgoing Call
A call originating at a telephone as either a maintenance (poll) call or a user
(voice) call.
Phone Record
A collection of information and configuration data pertaining to a SMART
telephone.
Poll Call
A type of maintenance call by TMA to a telephone to obtain information.
Polling
The process of calling one or more telephones to obtain information about the
telephones.
Reset
The act of restarting the control unit from the power-on state by pressing the reset
switch on an access panel.
SMART
An acronym for Self-Monitoring And Reporting Technology
SPI
An acronym for SMART Phone Interface.
Solid LED (On)
Illuminated continuously.
Supervision
The ability of the system to determine whether a communication path is working
properly.
System
A PC running TMA and the telephones being monitored.
System
Administrator
A person responsible for configuring, starting and shutting down the system.
TAPI
An acronym for Telephony Application Programming Interface.
Time-out
The cancellation of a particular operational mode due to the expiration of a
specified period of time.

Selector
A tool used to designate how many modems and SMART Phone Interface (SPI)
applications will be in use, and which TAPI lines will be served by the SPI
applications.
