EC Firmware Flash
6.4.1
Flash with SF100
The MITX-CORE-820 uses the Nuvoton W25Q80 as a flash device. The EC firmware is stored in
the SPI flash part. The SF100 can be used to flash the firmware into the flash part.
6.4.2
Flash with ECDT
Nuvoton provides a USB to the JTAG board. A JTAG header is also reserved for the MITX-CORE-
820 board. The EC debug tool can also be used to download the EC code to be used by the JTAG
to flash the USB to the board.
6.4.3
Flash with Utility
Nuvoton provides the flash update application for Nuvoton embedded controllers. It runs on
either 16-bit DOS or Windows XP/Vista 32-bit/64-bit. It programs the flash of the Nuvoton EC
with the contents of a flash binary image file, which holds EC firmware and/or system BIOS.
6.4.4
Crisis Recovery
The NPCE791x BOOTER Program resides in the on-chip ROM. After reset, it performs all boot
procedures, including NPCE791x initialization based on the header data. Then it checks the EC
firmware in the flash and if it detects a problem, the BOOTER enters recovery mode and allows
debugging via JTAG.
6.5
EC Debug Interface
6.5.1
Serial Port
The Serial Port 1 provides the UART functionality by supporting serial data communication
with a remote peripheral device or a modem. The functional block can function as a standard
16450 or 16550 or as an extended UART. The BIOS can use it to implement the console
redirection function.
