1.3.3 Software Upgrade Management
The software upgrade module is responsible for the following services:
 Upgrade of payload software on the shelf manager
 Upgrade of IPMI firmware of intelligent FRUs in the shelf
 Universal upload/download of regular files from/to the shelf manager
Before upgrading a particular software component, the new image has to be transferred to the
shelf manager. The software upgrade module requires an external server where the new image
is located. The server location is specified by the URL. The file transfer uses FTP and requires an
external FTP server.
The software upgrade management interface additionally supports a universal upload and
download mechanism. This enables the transfer of any regular files to and from the shelf
manager.
1.3.4 High-Availability Management
High availability management includes redundancy and network management.
1.3.4.1 Redundancy
The redundancy is provided by the shelf managers. The implemented redundancy mechanism
is cold standby. In case of a failure, a failover is performed from the active to the standby shelf
manager. This takes two seconds.
