The shelf management system consists of several major components:
 Distributed intelligent management controllers which manage and monitor the operation
and environment conditions of the FRUs in the shelf.
 Shelf manager which implements a system management interface and contains a shelf
management controller (ShMC) through which it communicates to other intelligent
platform management controllers (IPMCs).
 Intelligent platform management interface (IPMI) infrastructure that provides
communication, management, and control paths among the distributed controllers and
to the shelf manager. The IPMI infrastructure is fully compliant to the IPMI V.1.5 and
AdvancedTCA specifications.
The shelf manager consists of hardware (payload and shelf management controller) and
software.
