SECTION 5. LEARN THE STITCHES
You can use your basic straight smeh in
many ways besides just sewing a straight
seam. Three common uses tor the straight
stitch are:
Piniucking
Quilting
Topstitching
AIJ are discussed in this section.
1. Raise the presser tool.
2. Raise the needle to its highest position.
3.
Place the edge ot the fabric next to a
stitching guide line on the needle plats
(5/8“ is most common}.

Draw the threads towards the back and
lower the presser loot,
5. Press the toot control.

Hold the fabric loosely and gently guide
It along the guide line, so that n feeds
naturally.
Do not force the fabric or try to puN it
tight.

At the end ot the seam, you may want
to rayersa to lock the stitch.
8. When you stop sewmg, the needle will
auromaiically rise to its highest position.
9.
Raise the presser foot and remove the
fabric.
10. Cut the threads.
