Solving Memory
Problems

If you encounter memory problems, some common causes and
solutions are listed in the following table:

Solution

System won't boot or
does not function
properly after installing
additional memory
modules.

Memory module is not the
correct type or speed grade
for the system.

Replace module with an industry-standard 168-
pin syncronous DRAM DIMM that meets the
following criteria:

Rated for 66MHz or faster
operation.

Has an access time (CLK to Q) of
9nS or less.

Supports CAS latency 2 or 3
operation.

Out of Memory error

Memory configuration may not
be set up correctly.

In Windows 95, use Device Manager to check
memory configuration.

In Windows NT, check the

CONFIG.SYS file for

the present memory configuration and edit the
file using a text editor.

You have run out of memory
to run the application.

Check the application documentation to
determine the memory requirements.

Memory count during
POST is wrong

The memory modules may not
be installed correctly.

Check that the memory modules have been
installed correctly and that only synchronous
dynamic random access memory (SDRAM)
DIMM modules are used..

Insufficient memory
error during operation

Too many Terminate and Stay
Resident programs (TSRs)
are installed.

Delete any TSRs that you do not need.

You have run out of memory
for your application.

Check the memory requirements for the
application or add more memory to the
computer.
