Maintenance and Lubrication
Marker Maintenance
Refer to Figure 71
The marker arm is attached to marker body with a 3/8 inch,
grade 5, shear bolt. If this shear bolt breaks, replace it with
a grade 5 bolt.
NOTE: Failure to replace the shear bolt with a grade 5 bolt
can cause marker damage.
If grease-seal cap for marker-disk-hub bearings is dam-
aged or missing, disassemble and clean hub. Repack with
grease and install a new seal or grease cap.
Optional Liquid Fertilizer

DANGER
Some chemicals will cause serious burns, lung damage and
death. Avoid contact with skin or eyes. Wear proper protective
equipment as required by chemical manufacturer. Avoid pro-
longed breathing of chemical fumes. Wear respirator as re-
quired by chemical manufacturer. Seek medical assistance
immediately if accident occurs. Know what to do in case of an
accident.
Refer to Figure 72
1.
Shut off valve at the inline filter.
2.
Unscrew the filter canister and flush filter cartridge
with water or replace with new cartridge if necessary.
3.
Reinstall the canister and turn on valve.
Storage
Store the planter where children do not play. If possible,
store the planter inside for longer life.
1.
Remove seed box. Refer to “Changing the Seed Box
or Bean Hopper,” page 23 for more information.
2.
Thoroughly clean seed and seed-treatment residue
from seed meters. Refer to “Cleaning Out Meters,”
page 59 for more information.
3.
If your planter is equipped with an optional fertilizer
tank, clean tank and application hoses. Make sure and
use the chemical manufacturer’s instructions when
handling chemicals.
4.
Thoroughly clean pump following instructions in the
pump manual.
5.
Unscrew caps on end of fertilizer booms and flush
them out. Drain completely and replace caps.
6.
Remove any dirt and debris that can hold moisture
and cause corrosion.
7.
Lubricate and adjust all roller chains.
8.
Lubricate areas noted under “Lubrication”, page 64.

Inspect planter for worn or damaged parts. Make re-
pairs and service during the off season.
10. Use spray paint to cover scratches, chips and worn ar-
eas on the planter to protect the metal.
11. Cover with a tarp if stored outside.
NOTE: Do not store optional soybean hopper outside on
the ground. Raise it on blocks, secure it in place to prevent
from falling over or blowing around by wind. Store inside if
possible.
Optional Fertilizer System
1.
Flush entire system with clean water.
2.
Remove end caps from booms and flush booms out
with water. Replace end caps.
3.
Remove strainer and drain it out. Drain all lines and
tanks completely to prevent freezing.
4.
Drain pump, then turn by hand to clear. Fill pump with
winter grade windshield washer fluid and cap off.
