Operating Instructions

Field Operation

1.

Hitch planter to a suitable tractor. Refer to
“Hitching Tractor to Planter,” page 14.

2.

Make sure the proper finger pickup or preci-
sion meters are in place and drive couplers
are engaged. Refer to “Changing Seed Meter
Wheel,” page 44.

3.

Make sure all seed meter clean out doors are
closed. Refer to “Cleaning Out Meter,” page
59.

4.

Set seeding rate. Refer to “Seeding Rate,”
page 38.

5.

Optional Veris drive. For information on Veris
drive operation see “Veris Drive Operating In-
structions,” page 71.

6.

Turn on fan and set the tractor hydraulic flow
control to obtain 4000 RPM as indicated on
system monitor.

7.

Set 40” tongue height with planter lowered.
Refer to “Leveling Frame Front-to-Rear,” page
18.

8.

Set tractor 3-point hitch control for depth con-
trol operation - not load control.

NOTE: If the tractor 3-point hitch control is set for
load control, hitch movement may cause changes
in row unit depth resulting in uneven depth con-
trol.

9.

Pull forward, lower planter and begin seeding.

10. Always lift planter out of the ground when

turning at row ends and for other short-radius
turns. Seeding will stop automatically as
planter is raised.

11. Use the tractor hydraulics to raise and lower

planter, not the tractor three-point.

Monitor Operation
For monitor operation refer to the DICKEY-john ®
manual supplied with this unit.

Refer to Figure 17

The monitor uses a pickup wheel for measuring
planter ground speed. The pickup sensor should
be set at a distance of 1/16” to 1/8” from the pick-
up wheel.
