Using a DAT Drive and Tape Cassettes
You need to read this chapter only if your server includes an internal tape-
backup unit. This chapter describes the types of tape cassettes that work
with the internal tape-backup unit, tells you how to insert and remove tape
cassettes, explains the DAT drive status lights, and tells you how to clean
the tape-drive heads.
The internal DDS-2 DAT drive and accompanying software can perform
full or partial backup and restore procedures for all of the data on your
hard disks. In addition, the drive automatically performs error correction
and data compression of the files that you back up and restore. The error-
correction feature helps ensure a high level of data integrity. The data-
compression feature allows more data to fit on a cassette than do conven-
tional backup mechanisms.
Use Retrospect Remote (or some other backup utility) to back up and
restore data. For more information, see the utility’s documentation.
