Example 2: Changing the Values of Tape Drive

Attributes (PMF/IOMF)

The following notes explain this example:

The LOCATION attribute specifies the location (group, module, and slot) of the
PMF CRU (adapter) to which the tape drive is attached.

The DEVICEID attribute shows the device ID that is configured for the device. This
ID must match the SCSI ID that is physically set in the device.

The PRIMARYCPU attribute specifies the processor in which the primary tape
process should execute.

The BACKUPCPU attribute specifies the processor in which the tape process starts
its backup process.

Issue the SCF INFO TAPE command after the ADD TAPE command is finished to
verify that the tape drive has been properly configured. For example:

-> INFO TAPE $TAPE0, DETAIL

The following ADD TAPE command adds a 5258ACL tape drive connected to the PMF
CRU in group 02, module 1, and slot 50 to the system configuration using the name
$TAPE1:

-> ADD TAPE $TAPE1, SENDTO STORAGE, LOCATION (2,1,50), &
-> DEVICEID 5, PRIMARYCPU 2, BACKUPCPU 3,

For more information on the ADD and INFO commands, see the SCF Reference Manual
for the Storage Subsystem
.

Example 2: Changing the Values of Tape Drive Attributes (PMF/IOMF)

Use the SCF ALTER TAPE command to change the attribute values for a tape drive
attached to the system. The ALTER command changes only the attributes specified in
the command.

The following example of the ALTER command changes the value of the
compression attribute for the tape drive (5258ACL) $TAPE0 to OFF and then issues
the SCF INFO command to make sure that the change has taken place:

-> ALTER TAPE $TAPE0, COMPRESSION OFF
-> INFO TAPE $TAPE0

The following example changes tape drive $TAPE1 so that its tape process runs only
at a low IOP and then checks to make sure that the change has taken place:

-> ALTER TAPE $TAPE1, HIGHPIN OFF
-> INFO TAPE $TAPE1, DETAIL

The following example specifies a maximum of 32 concurrent file opens allowed for
the tape drive $TAPE 1:

-> ALTER TAPE $TAPE1, NUMOPENERS 32

For more information on the ALTER and INFO commands, see the SCF Reference
Manual for the Storage Subsystem.
