Loading and Unloading Tapes
The " is next to the message “Load/Unload.” Press Enter to display the first
Load/Unload submenu, shown in Figure 3-26 .

In Figure 3-26 , the " is next to line 2 of the display. Line 2 shows the top item in a
scrollable list of sources. Note that a ! appears on the right of the bottom line. As a
result, the ! button can now be used to scroll through the list and the top item on the list
appears. When the ! button is pressed, three things happen:
•
The list scrolls down one item (only line 2 scrolls).
•
A $ appears on the right of line 1 of the display to indicate that there is one or more
items above the item displayed on line 2.
•
The * at the left of line 2 disappears. This is because the default selection has been
scrolled offscreen, and an item from the list has not yet been selected. The *
indicates the current selection or the default selection.
Suppose that the operator wants to unload the cartridge that is in DLT1 into any
available slot. Scroll two lines back to DLT1. The display shown in
Figure 3-26 appears.

Initial Screen - 'From' Line
The list on line 2 ( Figure 3-25 , the From line) includes the drive and every magazine
slot that has a cartridge in it (a cartridge cannot be selected from a slot or drive that is
empty).
Initial Screen - 'To' Line
The list on line 4 ( Figure 3-25 , the To line) includes all of the valid destination choices;
that is, all slots that are empty (a cartridge cannot be placed into a slot or drive that
already contains one). If the drive is empty, it appears on this list.
Scroll List - 'To' Line
There is another limitation on the To list. If the drive has been selected on the From
screen, the To list can include only slots. If a slot has been selected on the From screen,
the To list can contain only the drive.
