Setting up local user accounts

When you enable strict password enforcement on the Brocade Virtual ADX, the ADX strictly
enforces the following password restrictions:
•
A user password can have a minimum of eight characters in the following combinations:
•
At least two upper case characters
•
At least two lower case characters
•
At least two numeric characters
•
At least two special characters
•
A password cannot share four or more concurrent characters with any other password
configured on the device. If the user attempts this configuration, the Brocade Virtual ADX
displays the following error message:

For example, if the previously-used password is Ma!i4aYa&, the user cannot use any of the
following passwords:
•
Ma!imai$D because "Ma!i" is used consecutively in the previous password.
•
&3B9aYa& because "aYa&" is used consecutively in the previous password.
•
i4aYEv#8 because "i4aY" is used consecutively in the previous password.
•
If the user tries to configure a password that was previously used, the Brocade Virtual ADX
does not allows the Local User Account configuration and displays the following message:
This password was used earlier for same or different user, please choose a
different password.
Enabling user password masking
By default, when you use the CLI to create a user password, the password displays on the console
as you type it. For enhanced security, you can configure the Brocade Virtual ADX to mask the
password characters entered at the CLI. When password masking is enabled, the CLI displays
asterisks (*) on the console instead of the actual password characters entered.
To enable password masking, enter the following command.
Virtual ADX(config)# enable user password-masking
Syntax: [no] enable user password-masking
When password masking is enabled, the following example shows the CLI behavior when you
configure a username and password.
Virtual ADX(config)# username kelly password
