Full and incremental configuration synchronization

NOTE

Brocade recommends that the interfaces on the sender device and the receiver device contain the
same configuration. If the configurations are not the same, any additional interfaces configured on
the receiver device are lost after the synchronization and must be manually reconfigured on the
receiver device.

Exceptions in configuration synchronization parameters

The following parameters must have a unique value on each of the Brocade Virtual ADX devices.
The configuration synchronization operation does not synchronize these values to avoid conflicts.

hostname - Host name of the Brocade Virtual ADX.

ip address - Includes the interface IP, Source IP, and Management IP addresses.

In addition, the following command is synchronized after special treatment:

source-nat-ip - If the port-range specified against this command on the sender device is 1, then
it is synchronized to 2 to the receiver device. Similarly, the port-range value of 2 is
synchronized to 1 on the receiver device, as in the following examples:

Virtual ADX(config)# server source-nat-ip 172.168.1.101 255.255.255.0

172.168.1.102 port-range 1

Configuration synchronization is not supported for following IP address configurations:

Management IP address

Interface IP address

Source IP address

Synchronizing files in the file system

When the OpenScript and SSH client public keys are created, deleted, or downloaded, the
subsequent execution of the write memory command triggers synchronization of these changes. In
addition, the Brocade Virtual ADX offers explicit commands to synchronize the following files:

SSH client public keys

OpenScript files

Several configurations, such as the OpenScript definitions, and virtual server configurations, are
dependent on the presence of OpenScript files locally in the file system. To prevent potential
synchronization failures in the absence of any required files, the Brocade Virtual ADX synchronizes
files referenced in the configuration, prior to synchronizing the configuration commands.

Validation of the configuration synchronization status

The Brocade Virtual ADX provides the show config-sync status command to identify whether the
two peer HA devices are synchronized, and also identifies the time elapsed since the last
configuration synchronization operation.

The Brocade Virtual ADX also generates appropriate syslog messages and SNMP traps to identify
synchronization successes and failures. The following list contains sample syslog messages:

“Full sync from hostname to hostname started.”

”Full sync from hostname to hostname done.”
