2.3.3 RS-232 Connection
The RS-232 port is a standard 9 pin D connector. It is configured as a standard type DCE (Data
Communication Equipment) device. This will connect directly to the data logger or any other
DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) type of device. The pin out is as follows:

Data Carrier
Detect (DCD)
Always follows the state of the modem carrier signal.

Transmit Data
(TD)
Transmit from the modem to the connected device.

Receive Data
(RD)
Receive data from the connected device.

Data Terminal
Ready (DTR)
Signal from the connected device that it is ready for
communications. When active, this signal will take
the modem out of the low power mode and ready to
receive commands. This will prevent the modem from
answering incoming calls. If an incoming call was
already in process, then the H-2191 will continue on
with that call before accepting commands from the
connected device.

Ground (GND)
System Ground.

Data Set Ready
(DSR)
A signal from the modem to the connected device that
it is ready for communications.

Request to Send
(RTS)
Tied to the remote devices Clear to Send. This signal
is used for hardware handshaking.

Clear to Send
(CTS)
Tied to the remote devices Request to Send. This
signal is used for hardware handshaking.

Ring Indicator
(RI)
Goes active during the actual call in ring process.
2.3.4 USB Connection
The USB connection is used for firmware updates. As new versions of the firmware come
available they will be placed on the manufactures web page or available by some other means to
the end user. Directions for updating the firmware will be available with the update.
2.3.5 Ethernet RJ45
At this time the Ethernet port is not used but may be used for future options.
