Conditions for Bidirectional Communication
Bidirectional communication allows information about paper settings to be automatically sent from the
printer. Bidirectional communication allows you to check the status of the printer from your computer.

Bidirectional communication is supported by Windows 2000/XP/Vista, and Windows Server
2003/2003 R2/2008.
To support bidirectional communication, the following conditions must be met:
When connected via a network
The printer must be connected via a standard TCP/IP port, and the default port name must not be
changed.
When connected via USB
The printer must be connected to the computer's USB port using a USB interface cable.
The computer must support bidirectional communication.
Bidirectional communication must be enabled in the printer properties.

The PostScript 3 printer driver does not support bidirectional communication. You can update printer status manually.
