Note

If you use too many wildcards in a search, you run the risk of considerably

extended searching time, and possibly getting no returned matches.

Premise Information

Some countries do not include premise information in which case this should not be
used in the search. However, a mechanism has been created to enable this data to be
entered quickly and easily. The premise should be keyed between two # characters at
the start of the search string

Standard Searching

Address components are separated by a comma. For example, you could type a street
name followed by a town, or a property number, street and state code. Each
component of the information you have typed in becomes a subject of the search.

Fast-key Searching

To optimize the speed with which addresses can be keyed, where a postal or ZIP
code is known the partial address details can be entered in pre-defined fast-key
format.

Where one of the fast-key formats is detected, the search string is automatically
broken down into its constituent parts. Commas are automatically inserted into the
search string and a * wildcard is added to any alphabetic parts of the string.

For example, the following US fast-key search:

#3731283MOUS

is actually passed to the QuickAddress search engine as:

37312,83,MOUS*

Note

This is currently only supported for the UK, Luxembourg and the USA.

The following sections describe the fast-key formats available for the supported
countries.
