Chapter 8

Creating Tables

Adding a Table

Tables can be added in line with text or fixed on the page. (To learn about fixed and

inline objects, see “Fixed Objects Versus Inline Objects” on page 105.) Fixed tables

cannot span page boundaries, but inline tables can.

To add a table in line with text:

1

Place the insertion point wherever you want the table to appear in the text flow.

2

Choose Insert > Table (or click Objects in the toolbar and choose Table). The Table

Inspector opens.

3

To resize the table, drag the available selection handles.

To place a fixed table:

1

Click anywhere outside the text areas of the document so that no insertion point is

visible.

2

Choose Insert > Table (or click Objects in the toolbar and click Table). A table appears

on the page.

3

Drag the object to wherever you want it to appear on the page.

You can also draw a table yourself.

This layout, featured in
the Photo Journal
template, was made by
filling some table cells
with images, and others
with colors and text.
