Using RAID Manager, you can define multiple Business Copy pairs as one consistency group. If you have
defined a consistency group, you can split all Business Copy pairs in the group by using the At-Time Split
function. For details about the At-Time Split function, see “
Business Copy Software
You can operate Business Copy by using the Remote Web Console computer. Remote Web Console
is attached to the storage systems via the TCP/IP local-area network (LAN). The Remote Web Console
communicates and exchanges data directly with the service processor (SVP) of attached storage systems.
You can view the structure or status of the storage system, or issue commands to the storage system.
License
You need to purchase the Business Copy license and make sure that there is enough licensed capacity for
the capacity of the pairs you are going to create.
Business Copy regards P-VOLs, S-VOLs, and reserved volumes as the volumes that require license
capacity of Business Copy. When you purchase a license for volume capacity for use with Business
Copy, you need to examine how much volume capacity you want to use as P-VOLs, S-VOLs, or reserved
volumes. The total volume capacity that you can cannot exceed the maximum volume capacity licensed
to you. Therefore, you must purchase a license for volume capacity that is equal to or more than the
total volume capacity you want to use.
RAID Manager
To operate Business Copy without using Remote Web Console, use RAID Manager. By using RAID
Manager, you can issue the commands directly from the host and operate Business Copy.
Business Copy Operations
This section describes the main operations of Business Copy.
Set Reserve Attribute Operation
The Business Copy set reserve attribute operation reserves a volume so that it can be used as a Business
Copy S-VOL. Reserved volumes can only be used as Business Copy S-VOLs. The storage system rejects all
write operations to reserved volumes, except when the pair is in PSUS or PSUS(SP) status. For details
about pair status, see
on page 26. You can reserve up to 16,384 volumes in one storage system.
Create Pair Operation
To create a Business Copy pair, the P-VOL must be in SMPL status. You may set a reserve attribute
on the S-VOL before creating a pair. You can also create a pair with an unreserved SMPL volume.
For details about how to create Business Copy pairs, see “
” on page 66 and
Performing Pair Creation and Pair Splitting
You can specify up to three S-VOLs for one Business Copy P-VOL and create three pairs. In addition,
the Business Copy cascade function allows you to create a second layer of up to two S-VOLs for each
S-VOL in the first layer. Pairs created between the first and second layer are called cascaded pairs.
