Installing Hardware Options, Hot-Pluggable

SCO/Caldera UnixWare

Supported PCI Hot Plug Functionality

HP support of PCI Hot Plug within Caldera Open UNIX 8 and SCO UnixWare 7.1.1
or later, provides full PCI Hot Plug capability for most PCI expansion boards
including:

• Hot-add
• Hot-replace
• Hot-removal
• Hot-upgrade

You can eliminate downtime when you replace faulty expansion boards, upgrade
your systems, and dynamically add new expansion boards.

IMPORTANT: SCO UnixWare 7.1.1 runs PCI or PCI-X adapters under PCI mode only. For
running PCI-X I/O expansion boards in PCI-X mode, you must upgrade the operating system
to SCO UnixWare 7.1.3 or later and install the PCI-X drivers located on the SCO UnixWare
7.1.3 CD #2.

Software Components

The primary software components for hot-plug support include:

• Hot-plug user interface Admin Manager
• Hot-plug controller interface
• Hot-plug system and device drivers
• Device Driver Interface (DDI-8) specification

The Admin Manager is the graphical or character-based user interface for PCI Hot
Plug technology. All user commands to add, remove, or replace an expansion board
funnel through the Admin Manager. The Hot Plug Admin Manager is incorporated
into the SCO system-managed framework called SCO Admin.
