Installing Hardware Options, Hot-Pluggable
Non-RAID Memory Support
Non-RAID memory configuration is now more user-friendly in the ProLiant DL760
Generation 2 Server with SmartStart 6.4 and ROM dated 4/21/03 and higher.
CAUTION: Running the system in non-RAID memory configuration leaves the
system unprotected from multi-bit errors.
IMPORTANT: You cannot perform a hot replace, hot add, or hot upgrade of memory if the
system is in a non-redundant memory configuration. The system must have a redundant
memory configuration (five cartridges online and error free) before a hot replace, hot add, or
hot upgrade will function.
NOTE: To maintain proper airflow, all five memory cartridges must be installed, whether
running in redundant or non-redundant configuration mode.
To place the server in non-RAID memory configuration mode:
1. Remove the recommended memory cartridge. Refer to “Removing the Memory
NOTE: If the server is run in non-RAID memory configuration mode, it is recommended
that the memory be removed from the fifth cartridge.
2. Open the memory cartridge and remove all DIMMs. Refer to “Opening the
Memory Cartridge” in this chapter.
3. Reinstall the memory cartridge. The server will detect that no memory is
available in cartridge five and will automatically turn off the appropriate
cartridge LEDs.
To return to a redundant RAID memory configuration, add DIMMs of the same type
and configuration as those installed in the other four cartridges to the empty
cartridge.
