Basic Verification
LED Indicators
■ The power supply unit LEDs turn green when power is applied to the IM.
Lack of power suggests the IM may be turned off, a power supply
problem, or an internal problem with the interface manager. The LEDs on
both power supplies should be green, if not, reseat the individual power
supply units.
■ The Activity LED on each Fibre Channel card shows Fibre Channel activity
when lit. If this indicator fails to light at all or stays continually lit without
corresponding SCSI bus activity, it may indicate a problem with the Fibre
Channel link. Verify the Fibre Channel configurations.
■ The Activity LED on the RMC signifies Ethernet activity when lit. If the light
fails to flicker or stays continuously lit, it may indicate a problem with the
network connection. Verify the network connection. The port must be
connected to a 10/100baseT Ethernet network to function properly.
■ The SCSI bus LEDs on the Fibre Channel interface cards show SCSI activity
(when lit) on the bus indicated (bus 1 or 2). This should only occur briefly
during power-up or configuration, and relatively often when the IM is
transferring data. If the SCSI indicator stays continually lit without
corresponding target device activity, it may indicate a problem with the
SCSI bus configuration. Verify the SCSI bus configuration.
Verify SCSI Bus Configuration
Problems with SCSI bus configurations are common. Basic operation of a SCSI
bus can be checked by using the Configuration menu to view attached SCSI
devices.
Other conditions to look for include:
■ Termination - Problems with termination can cause intermittent or hard
failures. A SCSI bus must be terminated on both ends and only at the
ends. By default, the IM provides internal termination for each of its SCSI
buses. Internal termination may not be disabled. Verify that the ends of
each SCSI bus are properly terminated. Termination issues when both
narrow and wide devices are on the same bus are common.
■ Bus Type - The IM can contain any combination of either of two types of
Fibre Channel interface cards. The card model number A4674A has
hardware for LVDS SCSI buses. The card model number A4673A has
hardware for HVDS SCSI buses. Single-ended (SE) SCSI is supported by
