IBM System Storage DS6000 Series: Copy Services with IBM System z

Table 9-9 Options and parameters used for FlashCopy with DFSMSdss COPY FULL

The following considerations apply to the supported options:

Multiple relationship FlashCopy

It is possible to establish up to 12 FlashCopy relationships using the same source. When
setting up a FlashCopy, it is necessary to determine whether the source volume might be
used in other FlashCopy relationships as well. Once a source volume is used in a
FlashCopy without identifying it as a multiple relationship source volume, it is not possible
to define other FlashCopies using this volume as source volume. Once established using
the DS SM, this attribute cannot be changed for an existing FlashCopy relationship.

Consistency Groups for FlashCopy

You can use the FlashCopy Consistency Group function to minimize application impact
when making consistent copies of data spanning multiple volumes. The procedure
consists of freezing the source volume during each volume copy operation, and thawing
all the frozen volumes using the CGCREATE command after a FlashCopy Consistency
