Verilink QUAD/IMUX User Manual
The QUAD 2164 module exchanges user data with the IMUX 2160
across Data Bus A on the shelf backplane.
IMUX 2160 Module The IMUX 2160 module provides the high-speed serial interface to
your data terminal equipment (DTE). The available connector
interface modules (CIMs) include HSSI, V.35, RS-449, EIA 530, or EIA
530A interfaces.
In the transmit direction, the IMUX 2160 takes a high speed
synchronous serial data stream and repackages the data into a
unique, proprietary frame for transmission by the QUAD 2164
module(s). It recombines T1 or E1 data streams received from the
network by managing the time delays and resequencing the
individual network data streams.
The IMUX 2160 sets up the data rate and provides the autobaud
function at the data port interface, automatically adapting when a
network line drops. It handles data port loopbacks and alarms,
providing error checking and frame detection for the proprietary
IMUX 2160 frame format.
Although Verilink uses a proprietary inverse multiplexing
technique on the T1 and E1 network side, the data port
functionality supports industry standards for the synchronous
serial interfaces.
Shelf Options To set up a standalone application for two to four T1s or E1s, you
can use the DLS 2100 (Dual-Line Shelf) with one QUAD 2164 module
in slot 1 and one IMUX 2160 module.
If your Inverse Multiplexing application requires support for more
than 4 E1 or T1 lines, use the MLS 2200, MLS 2200-4i, or the QLS
2500 (Quint-Line Shelf).
The Inverse Multiplexer modules use Data Bus A to transmit data
between modules. Since the MLS 2200 shelves differ in how they
segment bus A, exercise caution when placing the QUAD and IMUX
2160 modules within 2200 shelves. Two IMUX 2160 cards can
reside on the same bus A if they are sharing the ports of one QUAD
2164.
The MLS 2000, QLS 2500, and DLS 2100 do not segment Bus A,
therefore these shelves may not contain more than one QUAD/IMUX
installation.
MLS 2200 Shelves The MLS 2200 and MLS 2200-4i segment Data Bus A as shown in
Figure 1-2 .
