Module Details
This section provides detail on the features of the two Inverse
Multiplexer modules, the QUAD 2164, and the IMUX 2160.
QUAD 2164
Module
The QUAD 2164 module provides:
•
All CSU functionality for the network side. This includes
performance monitoring, framing, timing recovery and/or
generation, error checking, and loopbacks on the network
side.
•
Line removal and restoral upon exceeding specified alarm
thresholds.
•
Shelf controller, if required.
Each QUAD 2164 module provides four T1 or E1 network
connections. The four associated connector interface modules
(CIMs) provide integral T1 CSUs for long-haul connections, or DSX-1
interfaces for short-haul connection to an M1-3 multiplexer. All
lines making up an aggregate line will have the same configuration
values.
Delay
Equalization
To ensure proper alignment of your high-speed
data, the Inverse Multiplexer has built-in
mechanisms to provide sensitive delay
equalization of the T1 or E1 network streams.
(The delay is a maximum of 30 milliseconds
between T1/E1 lines.)
Performance
Monitoring
An overhead framing scheme provides critical
error monitoring capabilities, and an inband
channel for remote site communications.
Line Removal
and Restoral
The DS-1 line is removed from service when the
alarm thresholds are exceeded for BER, SES, UAS,
or CRC.
Automatic
Rate Adaption
For greater network protection, automatic rate
adaption is included to adjust the data rate to
lower speeds when the performance of
individual T1 or E1 circuits degrade or fail. When
the network circuits return to acceptable
performance, the IMUX automatically restores
the original data rate.
SNMP
The Inverse Multiplexer system includes an
embedded SNMP agent that supports standard
MIBs, and provides extensions to access product-
specific parameters. Physical access is provided
by a 10BaseT Ethernet connection located on the
front panel of the QUAD 2164 card.
When used with an NCM 2000 module, the NCM
handles the 10BaseT Ethernet connection and
the QUAD 2164 Ethernet port is shut off.
