Selecting which software to install
The Mac OS Install program installs the basic components of the system
software along with additional software features such as QuickDraw 3D and
Personal Web Sharing.
After you select a drive for installation, you will see these choices:
m Reinstall Mac OS 8
Select this option if you need to reinstall system software to solve system
software problems or repair a damaged hard disk. This process is known as
a standard installation. If you select this option, go to the next section,
“Select Software to Install Using a Standard Installation.”
m Add or remove software features
Select this option if you want to install specific components of Mac OS 8
or additional software features. You can also use this option to selectively
remove software components. This process is known as a custom
installation. If you select this option, skip ahead to the section “Select
Software to Install or Remove Using a Custom Installation.”
For most computer users, the standard installation is best, because it
automatically installs everything you need for your model of computer.
However, if you’d like to select only the software specific to your needs, you
can customize your installation. You can install or update one or more
specific files, or save space on your hard disk by installing only the files you want.
